Is political science a man`s world? A critique of narratives about the history of the discipline in Brazil

Abstract:

The aim of this article is to analyse the narratives of the history of Brazilian political science based on the question “Where are the women?”. To this end, the research is based on bibliometric indicators from Google Scholar and selects the set of most cited texts on the subject. The results show that the articles that have had the greatest impact on the academic community underestimate female participation in the foundation of the discipline, with limitations such as the total absence of mention of women or the reference to the group in a marginalised way. Both treatments are not supported by empirical evidence on the institutionalisation of the field in the country. Added to this is the lack of indications of gender inequalities as a problem to be faced in the scientific field. There is, therefore, no strangeness in observing political science only as a male world.
