This article analyzes the effects of the Bolsa Família Program in the town of Catingueira, Paraíba, Brazil, in relation to the changes within families that have started receiving the benefit. It was observed as being under way a generational change, which can be understood under the concept of 'the bolsa família generation' and perceived through family narratives concerning trajectories associated with consumption, children's attendance to schools, and child labor. The research in the field was held with the participation of five researchers, using as research techniques participant observation and interviews with the beneficiary mothers.
