Open-access Political culture, institutions, and democracy: lessons from the brazilian experience

The objective of this article is to describe and analyze the orientation of Brazilian citizens concerning democracy and its institutions, considering the Brazilian practical experience with the regime in the past twenty years. Comparing Brazil to other Latin-American countries, the paper examines how Brazilian citizens have taken part in the long transforming process from and authoritarian regime towards a democratic one, being it the result of a gradual change, neither abrupt nor definitive.
