Max Weber's work is marked by an all pervasive ambiguity: is the peculiar western rationalism superior or equal to other kinds of cultural rationalisms? This article analyses this dilemma in the work of some outstanding Brazilian social thinkers of this century, whose works were deeply influenced by Max Weber.
