Legislative output and electoral preferences at the Chamber of Deputies Committee for Agriculture and Rural Policy

The purpose of this article is to investigate the legislative performance of the Agriculture Committee and the logics behind its members' appointments. In the first part it analyses the legislative process with regards to time, Committee reports, party initiative, and content of bills. Committees generally debate on bills, but it is significant the number of rejection reports. In the second part it analyzed whether the committee members are supported by voters from rural areas or not. The data suggests that they do not come from agricultural towns and that the informational theory explains the logics of nomination better than the distributional theory.
