Evaluation of water of different salinities utilized in production of hidroponic corn

Abstract

The present work had as objective to analyze the hidroponic production of forage corn, using salty waters over a l5 days period, using waters of desalinizer, water of the urban municipal supply of the city of Campina Grande, PB and two saline waters with electrical conductivity of 3.5 and 6.5 dS m-1. In the cultivation fiberglass sheets, covered by plastic sheets, with inclination of 2% were used. The experiment was conducted in the green house of the Department of Agricultural Engineering of UFCG. The measured production of forage corn, height and production per kilo of corn were reduced with the increase of the salinity of the water and that the chemical composition of the forage was only affected with the use of the water with salinity of 6,5 dS m-1, with low consumption of water. The results show the possibility to use highly waters saline for production of the hydroponic forage corn.
