ABSTRACT:
This study aimed to investigate proposals for intervention and/or stimulation of phonological awareness aimed at people with intellectual disabilities (ID) present in the scientific literature, as well as to present data regarding their effectiveness. To this end, an integrative review of the literature was carried out in the following databases: Virtual Health Library (VHL), Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), Public/Publisher MEDLINE (PubMed), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (BDTD). Keywords in Portuguese and English were used, and there was no search period restriction. Four works met the eligibility criteria. In general, analyses of reports in the scientific literature showed that phonological awareness ability was altered. All stimulation/intervention proposals were positive in terms of feasibility, applicability, and effectiveness. The limited number of publications and the variability of theoretical contributions draw attention: use of phonemic literacy software, pedagogical activities, and curricular adaptations. It is suggested to expand this integrative review on the topic with the addition of the descriptors: mental disability (Portuguese), intellectual disability, and mental disorder (English), in order to increase the probability of finding older studies, when these terms were used.
