Open-access EVALUATION OF THE INCLUSION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS: A CASE STUDY IN THE MUNICIPAL EDUCATION NETWORK OF FLORIANÓPOLIS

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to propose an assessment tool for evaluating the quality of inclusion for Special Education students and to assess their inclusion within the municipal education network of Florianópolis, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Initially, internationally recognized assessment instruments for inclusive education were analyzed and described, identifying dimensions and indicators suitable for conducting the evaluation. The initial version of the instrument was then submitted for review by experts in the field, who contributed to the analysis of its content validity. Based on their contributions, the final version of the instrument was developed, comprising nine dimensions and forty items, addressing aspects related to inclusive school culture, community involvement, student participation, accessibility and safety of environments, professional roles and training, student support, and school curriculum. The instrument was administered to teachers within the municipal education network of Florianópolis. The analysis of the responses allowed for evaluating the internal consistency of the instrument and identifying areas for improvement to enhance the quality of inclusion for Special Education students.
