Open-access Audiovisual Accessibility: Analysis of Youtube Childrens Channels

ABSTRACT:

Audiovisual media, such as movies, TV shows, and online videos, play a crucial role in communication, entertainment, and information dissemination in today’s society. Thus, accessibility is a fundamental right guaranteed by legislation and international conventions, ensuring that people with disabilities can enjoy and understand audiovisual content in the same way as people without disabilities, participating autonomously in society without barriers that impede effective action. Therefore, these audiovisual media must be implemented with accessible resources, such as audio description, subtitles, and Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS, acronym in Portuguese). Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze channels aimed at Early Childhood Education on the YouTube platform from the perspective of communication accessibility. For this purpose, qualitative research of an exploratory nature was conducted, whose methodological path involved the observation and analysis of the YouTube virtual environment. The results showed that few videos meet accessibility standards, highlighting the need for content producers on the platform to create accessible videos to guarantee the rights of these people.
