This article presents preliminary results of a project whose main objective was to study the courses of Physics Education in Brazil. Data were obtained from a database of Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira - INEP, which makes available information about institutions offering different graduation courses in Brazil. From these data, the institutions offering the course of Physics were analysed and, through a questionnaire, the offer conditions and the number Physics course-leavers in Brazil in the last five years were analysed. This project was considered in view of the complex scenario of the formation of High School teachers; especially the issue that has been focus of debate in the academic sphere, namely, the deficit of High School teachers of Physics. This paper also discusses suggestions for institutional organizations and possible paths for the formation of these professionals pointing at alternatives to change the current scenario.
