Tutorial Education Program: Advances in schooling in physics at Rio Grande do Norte state

The Tutorial Education Program (PET), which was created by CAPES 35 years ago, is an action of the Federal Government in order to strengthen undergraduate education and foster graduate courses across the country. Since 1990 the program exists at the UFRN. We investigated the impact of the PET-physics at UFRN on the student performance during undergraduate studies. Through the analysis of time series of freshmen and egressed students, we evaluated the changes in the operation of the course. The results indicate that the student fellows, on average, complete the undergraduate course faster than other students, in addition to having a lower dropout rate. Regarding their inclusion in the labor market, it was found that 95% of petianos work directly or indirectly in their area of training.
