(Study of damped oscillations of a physical pendulum with aid of “Tracker”)

Technology has allowed obtaining experimental data faster and easier through the use of electronic devices that are part of our everyday life, which makes physical experiments more dynamical and even more accurate as compared to traditional measurement methods. This paper presents the results and the analysis of measurements of the moment of inertia of clapboard. The experiment was filmed with a smartphone and the data was analyzed by the free software Tracker. The function that describes the damped oscillation had its own parameters set by the Tracker and the Qtiplot softwares, in order to compare both of them. Comparing the calculations based on the measured parameters with the results from the programs, it is concluded that the Tracker is a platform of study with many features which allows more precise adjustment functions for the data analysis.
