Academic Requirements for Health Professionals at the School of Medicine of the Federal University in Rio de Janeiro

Abstract:

This research covers the perception and evaluation of medical training at the Federal University in Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) by groups directly involved (students, faculty, administrators, and alumni) or indirectly involved (user of University hospital services). The article discusses partial results for students, proving theoretical indicators for investigating the others groups. Common theoretical categories supported the elaboration of evaluation instruments to be applied in the other groups, in such a way as to obtain an overview of medical training. The study developed in this phase consisted of the following: a) sample selection; b) formulation, pre-testing, and application of questionnaires, and c) analysis of results of questionnaires. The interpretation criteria resulted from a cross-analysis of the demands and criticisms by students and the objectives and proposals of the prevailing curriculum, without losing sight of physician training conditions at UFRJ, the object of the study. The points emerging from this cross-analysis were grouped thematically.
