The importance of the medical history as an essential tool has been underestimated in medical education. Although the causes for this are multifactorial, there are two main factors turning anamnesis less attractive in the eyes of freshmen and even graduated professionals: the remarkable fascination for high tech procedures and the intellectualist myth valuing only the theoretical, contemplative aspects of human knowledge. The present review aims to analyze the causes, which led to this situation and to contribute with some suggestions for minimizing its consequences.
