Experience with Information Searches by Medical Residents

Abstract:

This study identified the expcricnces and needs of medical residents enrolled in the Medical Residence Program at Famema in 2003, conceming the use of information sources and libraries during their undergraduete training. The study group consisted of physicians trained at various schools of medicine in Brasil, both in traditional teaching and problem-based learning (PBL) methodologies. The results showed that less than half (14.15%) of the physicians finish undergraduate education with any training in information searches. Bascd on thesc results, we suggest that the libraries belonging to institutions with medical residency programs offer this service to the medical residents as a way of solving the difficulties of those who have missed such training during their undetgraduate courses.
