ABSTRACT
A replacement name for Hualpenia Mundaca, Parra & Vargas (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae). Vihualpenia nom. nov. is proposed as a replacement name for Hualpenia Mundaca, Parra & Vargas, 2013 (Lepidoptera, Gracillariidae), in order to remove homonymy with Hualpenia Franz, 1996 (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae).
KEYWORDS: Homonymy; Insecta; leaf miner; Vihualpenia.
A new genus of Neotropical Gracillariidae was recently described from a relict of transitional schlerophyllous-latifoliated evergreen forest of the Hualpén Peninsula, in Concepción, southern central Chile (Mundaca et al. 2013). However, Dr. Miguel A. Monné brought to attention the issue of homonymy of the genus name, which had been previously used by Franz (1996) in Coleoptera. Thus, a replacement name for the junior homonym is here proposed.
Vihualpenia nom. nov.
As a replacement name for Hualpenia Mundaca, Parra & Vargas, 2013 (type species: Hualpenia lithraeophaga Mundaca, Parra & Vargas, 2013: 158); not Hualpenia Franz, 1996 (type species: Hualpenia relicta Franz, 1996: 124).
Etymology. The first two letters in the genus name derive from the name Viviane, in honor to Dr. Viviane Jerez, for her great contributions to the study of Neotropical Coleoptera, and for her valuable work as professor at the Departamento de Zoología, Universidad de Concepción. The remaining part of the genus name derives from the type locality.
As a result of the name replacement, the following new combination is introduced for the only species included in this genus: Vihualpenia lithraeophaga (Mundaca, Parra & Vargas, 2013) comb. nov.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
To Dr. Miguel A. Monné, Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, for kindly bringing this issue to the first author's attention.
