Abstract
The economic groups’ strategies of accumulation and power are crucial to the debate on the contemporary urban political economy. Their influence on the unequal urban space production and the society in general terms has been too prominent. This paper discusses the potentialities of the non-convention economic group analytical approach to this debate. It aims at the accumulation strategies of two relevant groups to the spatial production of Rio de Janeiro: Odebrecht S. A. and Carvalho Hosken. It examines their central role played in the configuration and the territorial appropriation, as well as their particularities in terms of the organizational structure and performance.
