Conflicts in the São Paulo macrometropolis from the perspective of the water crisis

Abstract

This study focuses on the relationship between society and the environment, with the aim of analyzing the socio-environmental conflicts of the São Paulo Macrometropolis (commonly referred to as MMP), in terms of access to and management of water, from the perspective of the recent water crisis. The intention is to understand, through qualitative research, the manner in which models of urban water management have been approached from the perspective of representatives from civil society, in facing issues that involve the multiple uses, availability in terms of quantity and quality, as well as the actors involved. The results point to the need to construct mechanisms that may effectively contribute to water security, both in terms of availability and its uses and stakeholder participation.
