Editorial

We deem appropriate to consider as the first volume among the regular publications of the 2014 RBF, the II International Symposium on Fruitculture, highlighting the great potential that the exotic fruit represents to the Brazilian fruitculture.

The II International Symposium on Fruitculture, an event promoted by the Brazilian Society of Fruitculture, aimed at specific discussions of exotic fruit growing, a subject that has attracted increasing interest from the producers and consumers worldwide. Therefore, lectures were selected, with the most relevant themes, conducted by international and national authorities, to an audience composed of researchers, professors, producers, undergraduate and postgraduate students and technicians, who discussed during the five days of the event the most different fruit plants and its possibilities as culture and food. Results of researches developed in different regions of Brazil were presented. The lecture themes were presented as the following: Exotic Fruits - Prof. Dr. Antônio Baldo Geraldo Martins - FCAV/ UNESP - Jaboticabal-SP; Pitaya Cultivation in the World - Professor Dr. Yosef Mizrahi , Professor Dr. Emeritus, Dept of Science Life, Ben Gurion University, Negev, Israel; Cultivation of Coubo in Israel - Dr. Yosef Mizrahi - Israel; Blackberry Cultivation in the World - Prof. Dr. John Clark, Professor of Dept. of Horticulture, University Of Arkansas, USA; Blackberry Cultivation in Brazil - Dr. Luís Eduardo Antunes, CPACT, Embrapa; Physalis Cultivation in the World - Dr. Gerhard Fisher, Colombia; Marketing of Exotic Fruits- Dr. Hélio Satoshi Watanabe, CEAGESP-SP; Kiwi Cultivation in the World - Dr. Carlos Cruzat, General Manager of the Kiwi Committee, Chile; Chestnut Cultivation - Dr. Silvana Catarina Sales Bueno, Seedling Production Center, Cati. The articles submitted during the event were published in the Abstract Book, on CD, and others were selected by the Editorial Board of the Fruitculture Magazine and were published here. The event became the first in Brazil to discuss exclusively exotic fruit plants, bringing important information for Fruitculture.
