The author, data and publication of the scientific name of the sweet passion-fruit had been investigated. A series of mistakes occurred in relation to the correct citation of the species. The aim of the present paper was to evaluate the problems and identify the scientific correct form of Passiflora alata nomenclature. The species must be cited as Passiflora alata Curtis and was published originally in 1788, in the Botanical Magazine.
