Editorial
We believe that our colleagues and readers are aware of the efforts carried out by the Brazilian Society of Pharmacognosy towards the improvement of the quality of its services and of the Brazilian Journal of Pharmacognosy. In this first issue of 2007 we want to make some brief comments about some relevant facts which happened in 2006.
"Double celebration in 2006" The Brazilian Society of Pharmacognosy celebrated thirty years of existence and its official Journal, the Brazilian Journal of Pharmacognosy for 20 years has been publishing in its pages original articles, divulgation articles and reviews of unquestionable scientific value.
"Improvement of the Search System" Besides registering all the words which compose the title, abstract and key-words, the new system now can find the terms and sometimes hundreds of vegetal and/or animal species, primary and secondary metabolites, and so many different biological and ethnobotanic activities which appear in the long tables of the divulgation and review articles. Previously it was not possible to find those data while consulting the search system, but only going throughthe articles themselves.
"Site connected to a secondary link" In order to maintain the home page of the Brazilian Society of Pharmacognosy always available to the users, even if there is an electric problem, or maintenance of the internet system where it is located, the system is now connected to a secondary link. In case of any of the above problems the user is redirected to the secondary link. This will ensure that the home page will be always on-line.
"Color figures are now published at the web version of the journal at no extra cost" To have color figures in the print version of the Brazilian Journal of Pharmacognosy is very rare, because of the very high costs. This extra cost for printing color pictures if the Journal is covered solely by the authors. In order to solve this problem, now the color pictures, despite being printed in black and white, are presented in color at the web version of the Journal at no extra cost for the authors.
"New indexations in 2006" We would like to inform also about two new indexations of the Journal that we have achieved in the end of 2006. We are now indexed in the Brazilian SCIELO which is our main database of periodical. We were also contacted to become part of the SCOPUS collection. These two new indexations will make our journal more visible to the Pharmacognosy researchers throughout the world.
There are two challenges for 2007: The first is to become indexed in ISI, which would give us an Impact Factor. We are not far from that, since 2005 we have been sending regularly every issue of the Journal to ISI. The other challenge is to start with the electronic submission of manuscripts.
We would like to thank those who believed us and contributed for the development of Pharmacognosy in Brazil. We hope that in the first Editorial in 2008 we will communicate that the two challenges above were accomplished, among many other of not less importance which will occur this year.
