Redes de poder na América Portuguesa: O caso dos homens bons do Rio de Janeiro, ca. 1790-1822The period established between the end of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth centuries has been more frequently studied by historians in the recent years. Rio de Janeiro has been focused as the main site for the genesis of independent Brazil. The debate over the local government workings and the power network located inside this colonial society have been strongly emphasised. This article discuss some of the aspects characterising the local councilmen (homens bons) profile in Rio de Janeiro in the period.
