This article treats of enfranchisements in the hinterland of Bahia and has for reference 'letters of freedom', inventories and criminal processes of the Districts of Rio de Contas and Caetité, old towns and cities of the area. It compares the region with some areas of Brazil and presents the types of those 'letters' directed to the Justice, during the 19th century.
