This article presents nine letters of German immigrants living in coffee-plantations in the state of Rio de Janeiro. They were published in 1852/53 in Günther Fröbel's newspapers in Rudolstadt. The intention was to encourage an emigration to the fluminense coffee-plantation, which had adopted a "parceria system" instead of slavery. Besides playing a part in the promotion of the emigration they built specific images of Brazil for immigrants.
