The Study of Ancien Régime Family Archives in Portugal: Research Pathways and ThemesOver the last decade, the study of Ancien Régime family archives in Portugal witnessed significant advances in many different fields of historiographic and archival research. This article intends to present the main research pathways and themes on Portuguese family archives, taken as full objects of study in their own right, which have recently been explored. After considering all these research pathways and themes, we list some of the conclusions reached so far and reflect on possible future routes toward the protection and study of this archival heritage.
