Education and brazility: the getulist nationalization policy in the school context in Lajeado, Rio Grande do Sul (1939-1943)

Abstract:

During the Brazilian New State (1937-1945), the nationalization policy became one of the main governmental strategies for the promotion of a civic-patriotic culture in Brazil, directed mainly to regions marked by the presence of European ethnic groups and their descendants, as the Teuto-Brazilians in Rio Grande do Sul. Thus, the article analyzes elements that correspond to nationalizing impulses in a school in the municipality of Lajeado/RS, between 1939 and 1943, using documentary sources such as minutes, official correspondence and lectures written for civic moments, which make it possible to understand, at the school level, features of the social imaginary, related to Brazilian nationality.
