Abstract: This article deals with education in Pará in the First Republic and aims to study school inspection in the early twentieth century. To do so, we developed a documentary research, from sources available in the public archives and Pará library, as well as a bibliographical survey, consulting contemporary works, in order to construct a literature review on the subject. The serious concerns of the governors with the consolidation of the new system of instruction had in the inspection a primordial role, given its importance and power consigned in the attributions defined by the General Regulation of the Teaching.
