Use of organic fertilization and mulching in the production of calendula (Calendula officinalis L.)

Calendula represents an alternative economic source, mainly to familiar agriculture. The aim of this work was to study the effects of organic fertilization and mulching on phytomass production and total flavonoid content in calendula plants. The experiment was carried out at Federal University of Minas Gerais, Montes Claros Campus. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, in 2x2x4 factorial arrangement, with four replicates: two harvest periods, presence or absence of mulching, and four levels of organic fertilizer (0, 30, 60 and 90 t ha-1). The highest phytomass and total flavonoid productions were obtained with increasing levels of organic fertilizer. The highest total flavonoid content was obtained in the second harvest in the presence of mulching.
