Yield and quality of coriander seeds in function of nitrogen levels

The objective of this research was to evaluate levels and forms of nitrogen application on the yield and quality of coriander seeds, cv. "Verdão". Two experiments were carriedout at the Center of Agrarian Sciences of the Paraiba State Federal University (CCA-UFPB), Brazil, from April to November 2001, one in the field and the other under laboratory conditions. The field experiment was conducted to evaluate the seed production, and the treatments consisted of five nitrogen levels (0, 20, 40, 60 and 80kg.ha-1) distributed in an randomized block experimental design, in four replications. In the laboratory experiment, elaborated to evaluate the seed quality, the treatments were distributed in a complete randomized design with four replications. The seed yield increased with the elevation of the N levels 4.7kg.ha-1 for every kilogram of nitrogen added to the soil, and the maximum seed yield (1900kg.ha-1) was obtained at the dose of 80kg.ha-1. The maximum germination (82%) was obtained with 53kg.ha-1 nitrogen, while the germination speed index, in function of the nitrogen doses, increased with increase in the N doses, and an index of 5.6 was observed in the maximum nitrogen dose.
