Mobbing at work: from individual to collective confrontation

Abstract

Objective:

to report an experience of welcoming workers in a psychology school service and to present the results obtained through actions undertaken for the individual and collective confrontation of mobbing at work.

Methods:

report of intervention experienced in a psychology service. The intervention took place in two moments: 1) initial case individual therapeutic welcoming, 2) group welcoming. The individual care was provided in eight meetings. The group, consisting of seven workers, in nine care meetings. The analysis was carried out with the reading of medical records and diaries, as well as by meetings for discussion and convergence of the emerged contents.

Results:

two analysis devices were systematized: individual mobbing and group mobbing. The first one pointed out the worker’s re-elaborations due to the phenomenon. The second promoted the group strengthening while it shared and constructed collectively its means of confrontation.

Conclusion:

the authors reaffirm the importance of welcoming the mobbed workers and/or their witnesses as a starting point to deal with mobbing It must be followed by collective spaces to re-signify the psychosocial effects of mobbing on the workers and their work.
