2020 Update of the Brazilian List of Work-Related Diseases

Abstract

Objective:

to present the Brazilian List of Work-Related Diseases (LWRD) 2020 update process.

Methods:

a five-step work plan to update the LWRD was carried out between 2019 and 2020.

Results:

in step 1, the 1999 LWRD was compared to internacional lists, and professionals who make use of the Brazilian list were consulted. In step 2, a workshop was organized to discuss the first updated version. Step 3 involved analyzing the workshop discussions, drafting the list second version, and making it available for public consultation. After analysis of the public contributions, in step 4, the third version was drafted, and submitted for government analysis. Step 5 consisted of publishing the 2020 LWRD legislation.

Conclusion:

the LWRD updating raised the number of diagnostic codes from 182 to 347. The Mental and Behavioral Disorders chapter had the greatest growth. After a 21 years gap, the widely participatory process provided the necessary update, complying with the national healthcare legislation and contributing to improve the workers’ health integrality.
