Effect of sampling of bats during subsequent nights in the same place

The variation of the capture efficiency of bats was analyzed with mist nets opened in subsequent nights. Eleven campaigns were accomplished, between 1997 and 1999, totaling 27 nights. The mist nets were always armed in the same positions and they stayed open for the whole night. The campaigns were accomplished at 29 days averaged intervals. Significant differences were not observed in the capture efficiency among the first (0.33 ± 0.20 bat/h-net), second (0.22 ± 0.14 bat/h-net) and third (0.19 ± 0.16 bat/h-net) consecutive nights of sampling in each campaign. It was obtained gradual reduction of the capture efficiency with the continuity of the sampling procedure (r = 0.43, p = 0.03).
