BACKGROUND: To evaluate the limits, type and independence of splenic artery segmentation. METHOD: We studied 100 not fixed spleens not fixed through the technique of resin (vinyl acetate) injection and corrosion. RESULT: There was segmental independence in 98% of the cases. The type of boundary between adjacent segments was regular on both sides in 52% of cases, irregular on both sides in 27% of cases, and regular on one side and irregular on the other in 21% of the cases. The type of segmental arrangement was similar on both sides of the spleen in 78% of cases. CONCLUSION: We conclude that the arterial segments are independent of the spleen in 98% of cases.
