This research aims to clarify the role of speech therapist's approach with patients who have gone through orthognathic surgery, emphasizing the therapist's performance with in a multi-disciplined team environment. Basic on this focus, interviews were conducted with six speech therapists who have worked with ditferent patients and locations. The research assures that the speech therapist is an active and essential professional in cases that neuromuscular quality is not recovered as expected, causing some difficulties in functional adaptation to the new shape after surgery.However, it has been noticed the existence of ditferent approaches according to when the therapeutic should be done, which will ali be thoroughly discussed in the analysis of the interviews.
Concluding, the knowledge about Orthognathic Surgery procedures and Orthodontist is fundamental to build a successful communication pattern between speech therapist and the teammates.
