The struggle for gypsy rights in the Federal Senate

Abstract

This article analyzed how the processing of the “Statute of the Gypsy” in the Federal Senate makes it possible to think about ethnic-racial and gender relations. There are adopted methodological resources inspired by ethnographic research, interspersed with techniques such as participant observation of the authors, document analysis, and open and semi-structured interviews with public agents working in the legislative process on screen. It is a empirical research that made it possible to slide the horizon of anthropological work to understand the actions of the State in the face of the Gypsy issue in Brazil, realizing that the creation of a law can be crossed by epistemological disputes and political negotiations that mobilize public agents inside and outside the Legislative Power.
