Psychology and human rights: why discuss necroliberalism in security policies?

Abstract

The reflection about security policies in Rio de Janeiro reveals the consolidation of a phenomenon that has been called necroliberalism, characterized by the conjunction of neoliberal and necropolitical practices. In this paper, we made na inquiry to psychology, from its ethical foundations, to elucidate its role in the face of necroliberal rationality that advances in public policies. The reflections start from the idea that practices guided by necroliberalism are an impediment to the guarantee access to fundamental rights for part of the population, notably the poorest, blacks people and residents of favelas and peripheries. It is concluded that such policies promote sometimes incarcerated, sometimes exterminated subjectivities, producing important effects for the analysis of ongoing psychosocial processes in Brazil.
