Interfaces between global health and social inequality in pandemic times: The (de)protection of Brazilian slumps in the facing Covid-19

Abstract

This article aims to address the problem of the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil from reflections on global health and social inequality, taking as a case study the Brazilian slums and the (de) protection of these communities. Thus, the question pertinent to the research is the following: How has the pandemic been tackled in Brazilian favelas in a scenario of intense social inequality? For this purpose, the deductive method was used, based on bibliographic, documentary and case study research, with the collection and analysis of data, using the Brazilian favelas as a case study object, in order to demonstrate the interfaces between health global and social inequality and its effects in times of pandemic. From the study it can be concluded that even in a pandemic scenario, there is no effective protection for the Brazilian slums by the State, so that millions of Brazilians are in a situation of vulnerability, aggravated by the pandemic, without effective responses in confronting the covid-19, having to organize on its own - the Law of Pasárgada is repeated, today, in a context in which the airs of authoritarianism and negationism insist on returning.
