Human-animal studies: moral agency and animal play

Abstract

In this paper I propose some reflections from the perspective of human-animal relations about two relevant research themes in the field of law in their interaction with political philosophy. The first of these is centered on the notion of rational agency and those that are directly related to it: moral agency and autonomy; which I will do from the work of Claire Rasmussen on the role of animals in the construction of the "autonomous subject." The second involves reflection on the limits and intrinsic problems of a normative policy, and a possible way to think beyond this form of sociability based on normativity and individual autonomy. On this point, I turn to the reflections of Brian Massumi who seeks in animal play a way to think of a non-normative ethic.
