Social Reproduction Theory: notes for a Unitary Theory of capitalist social relations

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the distinctive aspects of Social Reproduction Theory (SRT). I argue that by recovering Marx’s notion of social totality, SRT moves forward from previous formulations from the unitary perspective in order to develop a understanding of the dynamics surrounding capitalist production and the reproduction of the daily life of the working class, i.e., the relations of oppression, exploitation, expropriation and alienation in contemporary societies. This could be an important interpretative key for the comprehension of class, race, gender and sexuality interactions in capitalism.
