ESCALA DE EXPECTATIVAS DE FUTURO ORGANIZACIONAL: DESENVOLVIMENTO E EVIDÊNCIAS DE VALIDADE

ABSTRACT

Considering the instability in the economy and organizational scene, the relationship betweenorganizations and the future has gained special attention in the last decades of the twentiethcentury. Such attention is reflected both in the development of planning and strategy tools, and in the organizational future projections made by professionals (at the microorganizationallevel). Based on the literature which indicates the importance of theseprojections in individual-work-organization relationship, this study describes thedevelopment process and provide validity evidence of the Organizational Future ExpectationsScale (OFES), instrument that measures expectations of individuals about the future of theirrespective organizations. In this way, three studies are reported. The first study describes anexploratory study (n=75), answered by professionals from different organizations, that aimedto reveal the attributes of the organizational future expectations and support the elaboration ofthe items of the scale. The second study reports the exploratory factor analysis of these items applied in new sample of professionals from different organizations (n=164). The third study exposesthe confirmatory factor analysis conducted from independent sample in a government agency(n=324). The final version of OFES has nine items distributed on two factors: OrganizationalEffectiveness (five items; ρ=.92; α=.92) and Management and Organizational Environment(four items; ρ=.93; α=.93), explaining more than 70% of the variance of the construct. Thediscussion analyses the OFES factor structure and emphasizes its role as a diagnostic tool formanagement.
