EDITORIAL

Writing an editorial is always an opportunity to reflect on the scope and variations of the same object: Nursing. How we have advanced in reflections and actions!

One issue of REEUPS shows that we have reflected on the relations between society, state and mental health — discoursing on a hospital-centered model (the past!) and a model that intends to tolerate differences (the new!); we have shown that the greatest number of deaths in a city in the State of São Paulo was classified as reducible or partially reducible (showing that we can do more!); we have found that nursing workers find it difficult to apprehend the beginning of occupational risks; on the other hand, that we have advanced in computerizing health, because studies have changed the profile of exposure to theory to applications in the sphere of work.

We are concerned with the training of caregivers, who take on care after hospital discharge with an intensification of the controls when there are iatrogenic occurrences with medications in ICUs, with the smoothing of the peri-operative process for children through the therapeutic use of toys, with education for diabetics in their self-care, and with learning of nursing undergraduates in a field which is expanding for nursing work: supplemental health practices.

We are already reviewing the system for classification of patients, suggesting alterations in the instruments used as well as teaching practices in degree courses, using Operative Groups! We know that time is too slow for those who wait, too long for those who lament, but too fast for those that do...

For those who love Nursing, time is an eternity. Only we must not fail to keep our sights on the present, taking conscious and clearly directed steps, celebrating discoveries and achievements. As Idries Shah said:

"If from time to time you leave expectation to one side, you will be able to perceive what you are receiving."
