Open-access Feminist translation and social movements: the case of Un Violador en Tu Camino

Abstract:

The performance Un Violador en Tu Camino, presented by the Chilean feminist collective Las Tesis in 2019, is an artistic intervention as a manifesto against sexual and state violence suffered by women. The protest has shifted geographically and culturally, implying its recreation/translation, to meet the sociopolitical specificities of each culture adhering to the movement. This article seeks to demonstrate how that translation played a central role in the propagation of this protest, configuring itself as an important transnational feminist expedient in favor of the development of equitable policies.
