Open-access Gender-based violence in SC: barbarity, naturalization and dismantling of social policy

Abstract:

This article is the fruit of a discussion that took place during the Round Table "Gender Violence, Rights and (In)Justices" at the 13th International Making Gender Seminar held at UFSC. It reflects on the state's "bipolarity" and ineffectiveness in terms of policies to combat violence against women in Santa Catarina, with a focus on social assistance. The article describes a political clash that occurred in the preparation and publication of the Annual Analytical Report from the Observatory of Violence Against Women OVM/SC (2023). In conflict with its objectives, part of the report's content was censored by members of the administrative committee. Finally, the article makes suggestions for a policy to combat violence against women in SC.
