O Que os Machos Querem: intercultural translation destabilizing patriarchy

Abstract:

Apart from the colonialist paradigm, this study aims to investigate how the intersection between both the texts “O que os machos querem”, and its translation into English “What males want” conveys the destabilization of patriarchy through the intersign “macho-male”. I assume the perspective of intercultural translation process which is situated at the intersection of linguistic-semiotic-cultural knowledge. Therefore, as theoretical basis, the following are: discussions on race-gender; intercultural translation and semiotics of culture. Upon analyzing corpus of this research, I perceived that some linguistic-cultural elements, stated in an intersign process, signify the destabilization of patriarchy.
