Experiences on care in old age, analysis from critical feminist gerontology

Abstract:

The objective was to analyze the experiences that a group of men and women in Mexico have about care, from the critical and feminist gerontology approach, assuming the existence of differentiated experiences that should be considered in policies on care and old age. Ten people were interviewed in depth, and through content analysis it was identified that while women contemplate the experience from a perspective of sustained care from the family and the community, men consider sustained care in the market pertinent, although they recognize the economic limitations to access it. Women develop interpersonal and community strategies to exchange care as a commodity, while men resist recognizing themselves as care providers.
