Open-access Translating and Rewriting Judgments: language in feminist struggles

Abstract:

This paper focuses on the role of translation in the Brazilian version of the Feminist Judgment Project. Translation comes to the fore due to the Brazilian project's affiliation to a perspective which views feminisms as movements that communicate between different nations around the world. In this sense, this article aims at exploring the role of translation in this project, based on the discussion of two aspects common to three texts translated in the context of the work of rewriting judgments in a feminist perspective: the use of translation notes and of inclusive language. The question is whether these texts can be classified as examples of translations affiliated with a feminist practice in Translation Studies that seeks to bring about changes in the judiciary.
