Feminist Practices in Theory Translation

Abstract:

The Key Texts in Translation (KiT) research group translates translation theory and its activities include feminist practices, from the choice of texts to the way they are handled intratextually. The purpose is to demonstrate the choice of representative texts for Feminist Translation Studies and intratextual practices in light of feminist translation theories. The group includes translation of theoretical texts produced by women, people of colour and from the Global South and/or on feminist translation discussions. Intratextual practices can be observed through the feminist translation strategies listed by Luise von Flotow: supplements, prefaces and footnotes, and hijacking through gender adjustments, visibility of female translators and the “feminization” of texts in more interventionist practices that break Portuguese cultural and academic conventions that tend to erase women.
