EDUCATING FOR DIVERSITY: GENDER AND SEXUALITY IN THE PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS AND SUPERVISORS OF THE INSTITUTIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OF TEACHER INITIATION (UFSM)

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to analyze how students and supervisors, who are members of the Physical Education subgroup of the Institutional Scholarship Program of Teacher Initiation of the Federal University of Santa Maria approach themes related to gender and sexuality. This study falls within the qualitative approach and the group studied consisted of 20 academic students and four supervisor teachers of the schools involved with the abovementioned Program. In order to collect information, we used a questionnaire containing ten open questions, which inquired about knowledge, perceptions, actions and importance attributed to the issues of gender and sexuality in the context of the school where they worked. The responses obtained were systematized from the most significant writings and their results showed that there is an association between the concepts of gender and sexuality whose clarifications maintain strong relationship with biological aspects of the body and are settled almost exclusively in heteronormative standards.
