The aim of this work is to relate the experience developed in the Descriptive Geometry I discipline offered during the first term of the Civil Engineering course at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). The experience has features related to the teaching/learning methodologies and to the contents approach, with the inclusion of fieldwork. The search for means to improve the student's participation in the classroom was achieved by the application of methodological approaches related to the link of the contents and concepts of the discipline with to real life engineering activities. The fieldwork was developed with other departments of the civil engineering course in order to allow the students to have a global vision of the course and to relate Descriptive Geometry and other engineering disciplines.
