ABSTRACT
Objective
to analyze the strategies used by nurses to promote teamwork in a hospital emergency room.
Method
qualitative case study research with 20 nurses in the emergency unit of a university hospital in southern Brazil. Data were collected between June and September 2009 through participant observation and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed using thematic analysis.
Results
the strategies used by the nurses to promote teamwork in the emergency unit were articulating professional actions; establishing relationships of cooperation; building and maintaining friendly ties; and managing conflict.
Conclusion
nurses notably make the connections between the practices of the health teams and mediate the relationships established between health professionals to improve care practices.
